The Role

The Network Engineer will be responsible for delivering engineering solutions that enhance VicTrack’s existing data transport capabilities, including:

  • Routing and switching
  • Network and services migration strategies
  • Hardware enrolment, configuration, management and reporting
  • Lifecycle of hardware and software
  • Security assessment and compliance
  • Test and verification

Working alongside Platform Architects and with subject-matter experts across VicTrack, the Network Engineer will realise strategic enhancements to Access Technologies that underpin VicTrack’s data products portfolio, including IPVPN, L2VPN, Internet and SD-WAN which utilise fibre, copper, 4G/5G, mmWave and satellite technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the subject matter expert for data technologies including routing, switching and MPLS to develop end-to-end solutions
  • Actively seek out new and evolving technologies and trends that may benefit existing solutions or create opportunities to develop new solutions
  • Contribute to capability requirements that define project deliverables for new data technology solutions
  • Contribute to lifecycle decisions for ageing or legacy hardware and solutions
  • Engage with the Security team to ensure ongoing alignment with security requirements and acceptable risk tolerance
  • Support technology roadmap planning and budgeting to ensure solutions are captured and prioritised
  • Contribute to Telecommunications procurement activities that result in vendors, integrators or technologies that underpin technical solutions
  • Lead and actively participate in a technical team to onboard new hardware and software that supports new or existing data network solutions
  • Develop and write test plans, procedures, strategies and technical guides for consumption by other engineering teams
  • Manage vendor relationships to achieve positive outcomes in capability development and defect management
  • Take ownership of engineering templates and architectural documentation to manage updates and version control

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Systems Engineering or similar tertiary degree related to Telecommunications
  • Vendor certifications, such as JNCIE, CCIE, CCNP highly regarded

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Engineering experience in design, support or assurance
  • 3-5+ years of experience with telecommunications access technologies
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in routing and switching with other access related technologies
  • Experience in writing technical documentation and presenting complex ideas and solutions
  • Ability, flexibility and drive to learn new technologies
  • Outcome focused approach to work initiatives
  • An aptitude for working with stakeholders and other internal teams
  • Management system integration with OSS/BSS experience (highly regarded)
  • Experience with Cisco routers and switches or Juniper ACX/MX hardware (highly regarded)
  • Knowledge of NBN, MPLS, OTN - 4G, 5G, Satellite, mmWave knowledge or experience (highly regarded)
  • Rail industry or utility experience, especially with critical transport communication systems (highly regarded)
